LT-LiDER Train the Trainer Workshop, Vienna, 27 November, 2025

Part of the TRANSLATION international · digital · vernetzt 26.–28. November 2025 Perspektiven aus Tschechien, der Slowakei und Österreich
Between the 26th and 28th of November the Vienna Center for Translation Studies hosts the TRANSLATION international · digital · vernetzt . Perspektiven aus Tschechien, der Slowakei und Österreich conference organized by Dr. Michaela Kuklová from the Czech Section of the Center for Translation Studies. The conference brings together researchers and practitioners from Austria, Czechia and Slovakia and celebrates 250 years of Czechia - Austria collaborations at the University of Vienna. The LT-LiDER Vienna team organises a Train the Trainer workshop within this event.
For translation trainers, understanding how various translation technologies work represents one of the key challenges in offering relevant guidance to young trainees. Moreover, access to up-to-date tools and resources to support such guidance in a hands-on manner can also be limited. The LT-LiDER project (Language and Translation: Literacy in digital environments and resources) is an Erasmus+ cooperation project with two main aims. The first is to map the landscape of technological capabilities required to work as a language and/or translation expert. The second is to generate training outputs that will help language and translation trainers improve their skills and adopt appropriate pedagogical approaches and strategies for integrating technology into their language or translation classrooms, with a focus on digital and AI literacy.
In this Train the Trainer Workshop we present some of the project deliverables and provide a guided tour of how the LT-LiDER materials could be used in the classroom by trainers.
Firstly, we present the Language Technology Map, developed using insights from expert interviews with specialists from the language services industry, as well as researchers. The map presents the technical skills relevant for a translator today, especially in relation to AI. For the acquisition of some of these skills, LT-LiDER will publish an open-access eBook to assist translation trainers in improving their own skills and introducing appropriate pedagogical methods for integrating technology into language or translation classes. The book will feature chapters on topics such as AI and literacy for translation, Data management and data curation for language and translation experts, Integration of LLMs into CAT tools, Speech technologies in the translation industry, Evaluation of automatic translation and sustainability, Integrating Generative AI into translator education for strategic competence development.
Secondly, we present a didactic tool for acquiring machine translation literacy, ProMut, based on the open-source MutNMT tool, which was developed as part of the MultiTrainMT project. ProMut is a platform designed for learning how to create, manage, and evaluate neural machine translation engines.
Thirdly, we will show specific examples of how these resources could be integrated by trainers in translation education programmes.
The LT-LiDER Train the Trainer Workshop will take place on Thursday 27 November, 2025 14:00-16:30 in Gymnasiumstr. 50, 1190 Wien, Sr. 9.. If interested in attending please contact alina.secara@univie.ac.at by 20th of November.
